We’re a bit lucky
We’re fortunate to work with some agencies who really get behind great editorial content. At Redwood we’ve worked with brands like Volvo and Land Rover who go beyond clickbait and understand the importance of authentic long-form narrative as part of their brand story. Because we spent the first half of our career telling these stories in words and pictures for print magazines, interviewing and presenting people on film comes naturally to us. Some brands get nervous about the idea of featuring real people saying real things, but it’s not a matter of getting the right answers, more asking the right questions.
Land Rover - Live Bravely
Larry Burke is one of the most inspiring individuals we've ever had the pleasure of meeting. He's the founder of the wildly successful American magazine Outside, and he epitomises the spirit of adventure that Land Rover's OneLife magazine was constantly striving for. As creative director, Bill also interviewed Larry over two days at his ranch outside Santa Fe. We wrote, envisioned and directed almost everything live on the shoot, and the result is a truly authentic portrait of an adventurous man looking back at his life, at total peace with himself and his achievements.
Film by Goh Iromoto, art direction by Dan Delaney.
Land Rover and Sir Paul Smith
Land Rover is more luxury and design-driven and less utilitarian these days. But there's still a lot of love for the iconic Defender, the vehicle that started it all. So when long-time Land Rover lover Sir Paul Smith decided to put his colourful design mark on one of the last Defenders off the production line, we created a film to celebrate it. We've worked with Paul many times over the years on GQ and beyond, and we wanted this to feel like he was driving through London chatting comfortably with an old friend – even though we were actually crouched uncomfortably in the boot shouting questions over the back seat.
Like everything we do, the content is underpinned with a story. Paul initially wanted to be a racing cyclist until a bad crash meant his life changed direction and led him towards the creative field.
